In the 90s, the use of acid as a means of revenge on estranged lovers was rampant. Only the hardened that were in the minority resorted to killing their loved ones. The love to kill did not abound as we have it today where people kill without remorse in the name of love and it’s a new norm now.

Why should “being in love” result in death?

Recently, I read about a man who burnt his wife to death after she left him due to domestic violence. The estranged husband stalked her; poured petrol on her and set her on fire, saying, “No other man will have you if I can’t.” What callous behaviour!

Have you had a burn on any part of your body before? The pain is unbearable, not to mention setting the so-called (Love of one’s life) on fire, indeed only a beast incarnate can do such. The pain, agony, and anguish are indescribable.

Love is a mystery. Why do good people end up in toxic relationships? Why do good people suffer in relationships/marriages? Going into the relationship, there will be hope, dreams, and aspirations on how the love will grow, only for these to turn out to be a mirage.

We learned that God brings two imperfect people together and makes them perfect in love but the rate of domestic violence today is appalling and it is not gender-based, ‘men too dey collect‘.

So, when your love is a beast incarnate, what would you do?
